I joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor in January 1996. I earned my Ph.D. from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1997. I teach mathematics methods courses for preservice and inservice elementary and middle school teachers. In 1996-97, I received the Kappa Delta Epsilon Excellence in Teaching award and have been recognized as an outstanding faculty member by various UGA organizations. My research areas include studying effective ways of educating and increasing the mathematical performance of elementary school students by working with teachers at all stages of career development. I am particularly interested in examining ways to support mathematics teachers of culturally diverse student populations. I have conducted research on equity issues in mathematics education, classroom discourse, and preservice teachers' views on mathematics reform. To support my research, I have received grants from the College of Education Collaboration Grant and Summer Grant programs. I have reported my research results at both national and international professional conferences and in five published works.

My professional service has included work on various committees at the departmental and college level, reviewer for three peer-reviewed journals, reviewer of grant proposals submitted to the National Science Foundation, and reviewer for proposals submitted to AERA. I have also provided service to inservice mathematics teachers at the local and national level. My professional service provides me with a rich base of experience that I draw upon in my teacher education courses. Further, my work with the teachers is closely tied to my overall research goal of examining effective ways to teach mathematics to students of color.
