He developed the first mathematics education doctoral program there in 1988 and has been the major professor for the most doctoral students in mathematics education (16 graduates). During the 2006–2007 academic year, the program received a highly positive evaluation from the Spanish Ph.D. Quality Mention program, which recognizes the scientific and technical worth of Ph.D. studies and therefore of the research groups and department involved.
