A note from MESA to our readers...

We are grateful to be in your hands and we hope that you will find this first official issue of The Mathematics Educator interesting and helpful. We trust that you will share this issue with colleagues, students, and others who have an interest in mathematics education.

To those readers who reacted to our pilot issue with many reflective, constructive comments, we will like to say "thanks". We greatly appreciate your helpful suggestions and hope that your interest in our journal will continue. We welcome letters from our readers.

We are very fortunate to receive help from outside of our organization. In the face of heavy budget cuts, the Department of Mathematics Education at the University of Georgia continues to provide materials and unlimited usage of equipment. This support is essential to our endeavor.

It is difficult to describe the roles of our staff members as we take advantage of the dynamic features of teamwork. We have opportunities to work together on reviewing, editing, and formatting articles; checking references; collecting and solving problems; creating graphics; and general clerical tasks such as filing correspondence and updating mailing lists. Our staff members are listed below.

If you are not on our mailing list and wish to receive future issues of The Mathematics Educator, please send your name and address to Circulation Editor, The Mathematics Educator, 105 Aderhold Hall, The University of Georgia, Athens, GA 30602. Authors who submit articles will automatically be placed on our mailing list. For now, we are offering The Mathematics Educator to you without charge but we would appreciate any donations to help defray publication and distribution costs.

In planning future issues, it is evident that our success is largely dependent on having articles of interest to publish. We want to present a diversity of perspectives; thus we invite all of our readers to consider submitting a manuscript. A variety of manuscripts suitable for submission along with submission procedures are described below. We hope you enjoy this issue of The Mathematics Educator and we look forward to hearing from you.
